Kent, WA (PRWEB) December 01, 2012

Door to Door Storage, Inc. as part of its “Door to Door™ Cares: Texas Wildfire Relief” program provides storage containers and moving services to help the ABC-TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” rebuild a firefighter’s home destroyed by the Labor Day 2011 Texas wildfires. The episode will unveil the completed house on Monday, December 3 (8:00-9:00 & 9:00 -10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. After the initial airing of the show, it will also be available for viewing at

A volunteer firefighter for The Heart of Pines Volunteer Fire Department, Mizzy Zdroj was battling wildfires raging throughout the county while at the same time her family’s home burned down in the blaze. Mizzy, her husband Chris, and their three children lost everything. The heat from the fire was so intense the rebar in the house foundation melted and required a full slab removal before reconstruction could begin. Nominated by fellow firefighters for the home build, more than 3,000 volunteers helped with the construction of the family’s house. EFC Custom Homes of Bastrop was one of the primary builders that led the project which called for the “EM:HE” design team to build a brand new home for the Zdroj family as well as remodel the firehouse for the community of volunteer firefighters in just seven days.

“It’s been an amazing experience for all of us at Door to Door Storage® to watch and participate in the building of this home,” said Kevin Uselton, Texas Market Manager for Door to Door. “The spirit of the residents of Bastrop County is incredible and their determination to recover from the devastation caused by the fires has been an inspiration.”

Door to Door became involved in the Zdroj family home project when it was contacted by the Adopt A Family Program. Within 48 hours the storage and moving company rounded up six wooden 280 cubic foot containers. Three of the containers were used to store equipment including hard hats and respirators. Another three were placed at the home to store 50 cabinets—also picked up by Door to Door and delivered to the site—that were needed for the project.

Since the breakout of the fires on Labor Day 2011, Door to Door has dedicated resources including the donation of storage containers, moving services and volunteers to support relief efforts in Bastrop County. It has been an active member of the Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team (BCLTRT). Due to the efforts of the Team, the General Land Office has allocated funding of more than $23 million to Bastrop County. The monies will be used to help rehabilitate and reconstruct up to 170 properties and Down Payment Assistance will be provided for up to 80 properties (Footnote 1).

“It has been life-changing to work on this project with the ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ show in addition to our involvement in the relief effort,” said Uselton. “All of us at Door to Door are committed to the Bastrop community and will continue to help as long as we are needed.”
